Cuba

Cuba Cubana!!!!!

We have literally had the time of our lives in Cuba! Defo a holiday we will never ever forget for varioussss reasons ;).  However,  as Nay and I have a huge tendency to babble we thought we would save you the mambo jambo  and whittle it down to our 5 TOP THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN CUBA.

You must must must ride in a Vintage car, luckily they are everywhere and you would never guess... but they are cheaper than a modern taxi! Sure there’s no air conditioning, sure it smells like diesel, and you might burn your booty on the leather seat but trust us it is soooooo worth it!

Havana, the realest! If you want to find out about the history of Cuba go to Museo del Revolucion but if you want to find the soul of the country wander through the streets of Havana, speak to locals and dance down the Malecon. Yes you can still see the effects of the revolution as there are a lot of derelict buildings but that’s what gives it character, that’s the beauty of Cuba. Cuba is overflowing with creativity!. If you’re an art lover you will never be one block away from amazing sculptures and vivid imagery.

Trinidad!!!!  This city stole our hearts in 5.2 seconds from the cobble streets to the bright coloured architecture we were left breathless. Trinidad just oozes rural greatness, you will see fruit trees and miles and miles of lush greenery. You can defo see this is something the people benefit from. While you are there you have to go to La Canchanchara to taste Trinidad’s signature drink. We had the benefit of having a night out at Ricon del Salsa and this was by far the best night out we had in Cuba. What can we say, dancing under the moonlight, with a rum and cigar in hand is unforgettable.

WELL, WELL, WELL... maybe we should just start and end with the rum. Havana club Rum is by far the smoothest rum we’ve ever had. Both being Island girls (Jamaica stand up), trust us we know what we are talking about when it comes to rum #NoOverproof.
Ermmm... so about the food BYOF (bring your own food) On a whole both us and our friends (whom are meat eaters) were underwhelmed by the food in Cuba so we have ZERO recommendations. This defo isn’t a foodies holiday.

Our most memorable experience was trekking in Cienfuegos.  We were schooled in the art of herbal remedies by your guide Ceila. Hibiscus for Hair dye, tree bark for Gaul stones and she even boiled fresh Aniseed leaves for Jades bloated-ness (too much carbs lol).  We swam in a blue lagoon under a waterfall and ate the best mango of life.  One thing we will say BRING YOUR MOSQUITO PEPPER SPRAY they will eat your asses up!

If you want to dance until your feet bleed go to any Salsa de Cuba club! You can get a table for 35 CUC which includes a large bottle of rum and 5 limonatas. #TunUp

As we didn’t go this time around Santiago de Cuba is on our hit list as many locals have said it’s their favourite city!  Have any of you guys been? We would love to know your recommendations...
...and If you want any more info please comment below!

PS. if you can take a suitcase of clothes, shoes, toiletries (especially shampoo as it’s so expensive) and tinned food they will be super grateful! They are paid really badly so anything you can give will be appreciated.
