Gibraltar, Spain and Morocco - A journey across oceans and deserts

7 days, 3 Countries, 3 Currency's and 2 Continents...
This trip was really special as it was the boy's b'day and I really wanted us to do something special. So, I decided to plan a trip that followed the journey of the main character from one of his favourite books- The Alchemist.

Holiday vibes! lol!

GIBRALTAR

So we spent a lot of time in Gibraltar, and to our surprise we didn't need to spend all of those Euros that we changed up! -_- Oh no, we needed good old British pounds.

Gibraltar is basically a rock, a great rock but just a rock lol. But when we did venture up the rock we found some amazing hidden gems. This was one of them, St Michael's Cave originally used as a hospital for wounded soldiers but it is now used as a theatre- HOW COOL?!

We drove all the way up to the top to see this amazing view of where the Atlantic ocean meets the Mediterranean Ocean. We felt almost insignificant as we looked at the vast Ocean. If you look closely you can see Africa in the distance, this was a nice reminder of the journey that was ahead of us. We also meet these cute little monkeys below <3

WHERE TO STAY

This amazing Hotel and Casino is the perfect place to stay in Gibraltar. The Sunborn Super Yacht Hotel had gorgeous views from the rooms and the restaurant and it is situated in the perfect location. Highly recommended! Our first night we went to La Sala and had incredible food and wine, there was also a live performance! Make sure you go to the top of the boat to see views of Gibraltar and to also reenact that famous Titanic scene at the front of the Yacht lol!

ANDALUSIA- LA LINEA

Just across the border in La Linea is where we begun our journey as the boy as it is not far from where the boy grew up (Tarifa). It was great to get a slice of Spain and also to be so close to Gibraltar. The only annoying thing was we had to carry our passports with us every time we wanted to go back into Gibraltar as we had to cross the border and thus go through immigration LONG.COM.

La Linea is a cute small town, but there's not much to see so we spent a lot of our time just walking around admiring the architecture and views of the sea. We did find some good spots though, our fave was Aqa this restaurant never ever failed us, the food was GREAT! It was perfect for lunch and dinner. Just make sure you don't go there between 2pm and 8pm as the kitchen is closed- we done this twice lol I was not a happy bunny I hate waiting for food.

After 3 days of chilling, maxing and relaxing we traveled from Spain to Tanger by ferry, we booked this in advance via Direct Ferries. It was really simple to get to the port from La linea, it was literally one bus which cost 2 Euro each- Bargain! The ferry like our flights (I wont mention the airline) was delayed -_- but we got there in one piece and got to see amazing views on the way there.

MOROCCO- TANGER

After a long taxi drive going though the hills and valleys, we arrived at our hotel and we were blown away! By far the best hotel of our trip. The Farah hotel was absolutely fantastic! They upgraded us to a suite and we had the most amazing views of the ocean and we were facing in the right direction to watch the sun set- So romantic! Here's a few pics.

The Suite Life!

Reception- Like OMG!

The pool! To infinity and beyond!!!!!!

THE FOOD!

I was very lucky as a client of mine lives in Tanger so I was recommended all of these amazing restaurants. I love Moroccan food so for me this part of the holiday was all about the food!
On the night of his Birthday we went to the cutest restaurant EVER! The restaurant was in Hotel Nord- Pinus. It took us forever to find this gem because from the outside it was easy to miss. But when that door opened it was like you were transported into "a whole new world" (Aladdin voice) lol. Here's a few pics :)

The next spot after prancing around in the streets was El Morocco Club. We sat outside as it was for lunch and the weather was mighty fine! But just so you know they do have a piano bar and gorge restaurant inside. The food was so fresh and yummy.

After that filling lunch, off to the souk we went! The Hustle and Bustle in the Souk was VERY real! But do not get put off  because it is well worth it! Oh and if someone asks to show you around and you just want to walk around at your leisure just kindly decline- we did. Some are really helpful though as it is actually hard to find monuments and museum as there aren't ANY signs. Don't get me wrong we were very grateful just after a while it got a bit annoying. On a positive note I picked up some Argan Oil and trinkets so I was very happy.

Cappucino- a slice of heaven! This place has the best deserts and ice creams and delicious mocktails. It is a must if you love cakes as much as me :)

El Korsan at Hotel el Minzah was a perfect end to our trip. Gorgeous decor, live music, belly dancing and even a guy spinning plates of fire on his head (All the pics of this looked so crap I wish I could show you). It was such a romantic but fun night. As there isn't a night life in Tanger it is all about where you dine and the entertainment that they have. We were lucky every night we went to somewhere amazing and enjoyed the food through and through.

All in all we had an amazing time. We were okay with going home but we knew we were going to miss the views, food and culture. Spain gave us the laid back, easy living, Gibraltar a slice of home, and Tanger great food and an abundance of culture. This is only part 1 of this journey, we still like the boy have to wonder through the desert on to Egypt in search of our "treasure".  My last comment would be if you go to Tanger with your partner wear a ring even if you aren't engaged or married. It is much more traditional than Marrakesh so you will be more respected if you wear one. Here's a funny story so you know why I advise this: our first night in Tanger a waiter asked my other half if we were ordering 1 or 2 glasses of wine i.e he was politely asking him if I was allowed to drink. He didn't ask me, he asked my other half for his permission to serve me alcohol. Cha! I wasn't offended at all just made me aware of how different our cultures are and how much of a difference a couple hours on a ferry can make.

Spain, Gibraltar, and Tanger thank you for an amazing trip- one I will never forget.
Hasta la vista baby.
Cheers, Nay xxx
